ALAN SHAWCROSS

 

Alan Shawcross has photographed a number of significant figures from around the world, including members of our own Royal Family and several heads of state from Europe and The Middle East.  Based in London, he has undertaken commissions both here in The U.K. and overseas, taking pictures with traditional photographic materials and values.  The company he part-owns, Anthony Buckley & Constantine, has an eminent history and retains Royal Warrants of Appointment.

 

Born in 1947, he has been engaged in professional photography since leaving school at the age of 16 and feels privileged to have made a livelihood from the medium he loves.

 

He is a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society, has exhibited his work on a regular basis and was awarded a silver-medal for his portrait of Prince Charles in 2007.   For the Millennium he produced 'Quality Street' ;  an exhibition of portraits of people who earned their living in Mayfair's Mount Street and the accompanying illustrated catalogue  ( in part, due to the radical 're-invention' of the street)  has already become something of a collector's item.  He continues to produce personal images, a selection of which can be seen on his website.

His early photographic hero was 'Karsh of Ottowa' and now, having re-discovered the joys of black and white photography, would like to further explore this discipline that first triggered his interest in portraiture.
